Job Description

The Search Planner is responsible for the search strategy, KPI setting and budget allocation across the full B&Q mix, to deliver immediate ROI and long-term brand awareness. Working with a third-party agency the Search Planner will drive constant innovation in paid search and seek continual optimisation.

Role Objectives

• Work with the Performance Marketing Manager to develop the search strategy, budget split and KPIs.
• Be responsible for the performance of all keywords, campaigns, bid management, copy and optimisation on the B&Q account against agreed KPIs
• Take overall responsibility for the prioritisation of spend across the account so that efficiency is continually optimised
• Work with the Digital Marketing Analyst to identify trends / opportunities in the data and work aggressively to optimise
• Liaise with categories to discuss high / low performing products and agree a path forward to reduce support for low performing areas
• Drive a continual education process at B&Q to raise awareness of the role of search, the balance of top tier positioning v costs so that campaigns are delivered to their best potential

Candidate Requirements

Essential skills:
• Exceptional understanding of the paid search ecosystem including algorithms and best practice
• Experience managing a search account with 1000+ products
• Commercially focused and able to discuss COS, margin, revenue etc fluently with commercial colleagues
• Ability to focus and plan with a 6month+ view
• Highly analytical and data-driven
• Strong knowledge of Excel and ability to manipulate and interpret data sets

Knowledge and experience:
• Strong academic background - preferably having excelled in a numerate/ analytical discipline at a top tier university
• Strong mathematical mind with an inquisitive approach to data to constantly monitor, measure and optimise elements of the account

Other key requirements of the role include:
• Able to forge very strong relationships with third party suppliers and extract the best possible work
• Able to dialogue comfortably with marketing and category colleagues alike
• Comfortable with databases, middleware and tracking / tagging
